Technical
The laboratory is fully equipped with the following:
- Q4 Tasman Bruker Spectrometer for chemical analysis
- Sample cutting and preparation equipment
- Microscope with Image Analyzer for microstructure analysis and quantification of phases present
- Portable sample preparation and microscope for on-site casting evaluation
- Emcotest Rockwell Hardness Tester for sample hardness measurement
- Ferritscope machine to measure and evaluate effectiveness of heat treatment
- Laboratory furnaces for heat treatment of samples and smaller components
- Software to determine liquid metal solidification morphology
- Mould design and solidification simulation for rolls

Quality Assurance
- SARCO is ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and OSHAS 18001:2007 accredited.
- The Quality Assurance department has strict procedures for planning, manufacturing, testing and document control.
- Equipment in the department include a portable Bruker metal analyzer, Equotip hardness tester, Ultrasonic Scanners (evaluating bond integrity in spun cast rolls and sleeves and defects) and LISMAR Roll Inspection Machine for surface defects detection
